Libraries have always been in the business of helping people find, evaluate and make sense of information. Long before the internet, before search engines, and long before artificial intelligence, librarians were working alongside students, researchers and communities to build the skills needed to navigate a complex and ever-changing information landscape. 

In higher education today, university libraries do far more than manage collections and provide student spaces. At their core, they are places where critical thinking, information literacy, and the responsible use of knowledge are actively taught, practiced, and championed. 

That work has never been more important. We live in an era of information abundance, where the challenge is no longer finding information but knowing how to assess it, question it and use it wisely. Misinformation spreads rapidly, algorithms shape what we see, and AI is changing the way knowledge is created, shared and consumed at a pace that is difficult to keep up with. 

At ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app Library, supporting critical and information literacy is central to everything we do. We work with students and staff to develop the skills needed to search effectively, evaluate sources critically, and use knowledge responsibly and ethically. 

In an AI-shaped world, those skills matter more than ever. AI tools can summarise, generate and retrieve information at extraordinary speed, but they can also reproduce bias, obscure sources, and present misinformation with confidence. Understanding what AI is, how it works, and what its limitations are, is now a core information literacy skill for students, researchers and educators alike.

Introducing: Hello AI!

Hello AI! is a portable experience developed by Tactical Tech, an internationally recognised organisation working at the intersection of technology, society and human rights. This visual display aims to demystify AI and provoke meaningful dialogue about its role in our lives, work, and communities. 
This experience invites you to ask:

• What is AI actually doing behind the scenes?
• Who is shaping it and whose interests does it serve?
• Who is affected, and who is left out?
• How can we use AI responsibly?
• How can we make informed choices in a world increasingly mediated by algorithms?

These are not abstract questions. They are the questions that students, researchers and educators need to be equipped to answer, and they sit at the heart of what the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app Library is here to support.
