Gala Night celebrates ties between Vietnam, Australia
Evening of entertainment recognises immense contribution of Vietnamese students
The University of ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app’s (ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app) Vietnamese Students Association (VGong) honoured the strong relationship between Australia and Vietnam during an evening of entertainment and celebrations yesterday (Tuesday 26 June).
Hosted by VGong, the event brought together Vietnamese students from around the state for the Gala Night, which featured cultural performances and a talent competition.
More than 100 students and special guests attended the inaugural event, including Dr Duc Hai Trinh, Consul-General of Vietnam in NSW, and members of the United Association of Vietnamese Students in NSW.
Mr Hoang Phan, President of VGong, said the evening was be a fun way to celebrate ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app’s Vietnamese students community and further strengthen the ties between the two nations.
“Every year we are seeing an increasing number of Vietnamese students choosing ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app to study,” said Mr Phan, who is studying a PhD in engineering.
“Through the activities of Vietnamese students at ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app and their popularity, the Vietnamese students in Vietnam will know more about ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app and they will be more likely to choose ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app as their destination.”
The main entertainment for the evening was VGong’s Got Talent, with students showcasing their diverse musical and dance talents.
Professor Alex Frino, ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Global), said the VGong Gala Night recognised the immense contribution Vietnamese students made to the University community.
“Australia and Vietnam have forged a strong bond with approximately 1000 Vietnamese students studying at ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app per year. The Gala Night celebrates these ties and draws on the strengths from the diversification between the two nations,” Professor Frino said.
Hop Dao, who is studying a Bachelor of Communication and Media Studies, has relished the opportunity to study at ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app while being part of the diverse student community.
“My friend recommended ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app because of the quality of the teaching and learning. I also looked at the rankings before choosing which university to go to,” Hop said.
“ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app has a good support network and activities for international students. I feel relaxed and comfortable in ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app. It has picturesque landscapes and friendly people and it’s a multicultural city, which is an absolute advantage.”
