University of ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app’s new high-tech training facilities to prepare job-ready nurses and health professionals for regional Australia

The University of ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app (ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app) has officially opened a suite of advanced Clinical Simulation Labs, designed to transform healthcare education, help address Australia’s growing shortage of skilled health professionals and meet rising student demand.

Equipped with industry-leading technology – including SimCapture® recording and playback, virtual reality headsets, and Mask-Ed® simulation tools – the new Labs provide immersive, hands-on training for students across nursing and allied health degrees. Students will be able to practise real-world scenarios in safe, controlled environments that mimic the pressures and unpredictability of modern healthcare settings.

“Students can engage in a range of real-world scenarios they might not encounter during clinical placements, particularly in high-pressure or rare situations,” Professor , Deputy Head of ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app’s School of Nursing said.

“These immersive simulations mirror complex, unpredictable environments, allowing students to experience a broader spectrum of healthcare situations and develop their critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

“With Australia facing a shortage of nurses and skilled health workers and an aging population that is driving unprecedented demand on the healthcare workforce, the Labs expand our capacity to train nurses and allied health professionals.”

The Labs support a range of health degrees, including nursing, and , nutrition science and dietetics, medical science and more. With hospital-grade simulation suites, consultation rooms and industry-standard equipment, the new spaces reflect the multidisciplinary nature of healthcare and create opportunities for students to collaborate across disciplines.

Beyond structured classes, students will also be able to book the Labs for self-directed practice. Integrated video technology enables students to review their performance and receive feedback—enhancing learning outcomes and supporting individual progress.

ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app’s Clinical Simulation Labs are a timely and strategic investment to expand the university’s teaching capacity and deliver more job-ready graduates to communities in need, including in regional and rural areas. The new facilities will be open to students from the start of Spring Session and build on ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app’s existing leadership in health education.
